#StupidAppleTricks: The Video

On macOS the padding between icons and other element could be tighter. If you want to make the most of your screen real estate every em matters. Apple tends to use 4em or more for spacing between elements. This is far too much. At half that, elements are is still distinctly separated, and the desktop still doesn’t look cluttered.

Because of these #StupidAppleTricks, I have only ungraded one computer to macOS26. There are more, but this one is a pet peeve, and I consider bad design. Apple should allow users to set the grid tighter or looser depending on desires. It does this but not to non-icon elements. So I’m stuck with It wouldn’t make the machine much different from a stock spaced machine, and still recognizably #Apple (which Apple always been show the machine off as Apple, and not Windows or Linux.

UPDATE: somehow messing with the grid (a lot) and making it smaller solved the problem. I’ll keep this post up because it was a problem, and Apple should care about problems users have, not a slew of rarely used “NEW” features.
